Senior Automation Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Automation Specialist based in Spain.

This is a hands-on opportunity to transform operational processes through practical, AI-first automation.
You will work directly with operational leaders to identify manual workflows and turn them into reliable, scalable systems.
The role combines AI agents, reasoning layers, APIs, workflow automation, and software engineering across a modern cloud stack.
You will take ownership from discovery through production, monitoring, measurement, and continuous improvement.
Your impact will be measured in tangible operational outcomes, particularly the number of manual hours eliminated each week.
You’ll operate at the intersection of technology and business, translating complex human processes into robust automation.

• Design and maintain automation and reasoning layers for operational workflows, enabling systems to route and action tasks based on business logic rather than simply moving data between platforms.

• Translate manual operational processes into scalable automations in close partnership with domain experts and operational leads.

• Build AI agents using tools such as Claude, Codex, or comparable technologies, supported by structured evaluations, real-world testing, and manual quality assurance.

• Codify business rules, establish data-quality controls, and create appropriate safety mechanisms for escalating tasks from automation to human review.

• Identify the operational areas where automation can create the greatest impact and adjust priorities accordingly.

• Integrate internal systems and third-party services using APIs, webhooks, n8n, and comparable workflow tools, including systems that were not originally designed to work together.

• Build and maintain frontend applications in TypeScript and work with AWS-native infrastructure, databases, S3, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.

• Own automation projects end to end, from discovery and design through deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and iteration.

• Measure the effectiveness of automations using tangible operational metrics, particularly manual hours removed each week.

• Monitor production workflows, take ownership of errors, and continuously improve automations based on real-world operational feedback.

• Stay current with developments in AI models, agent frameworks, prompting techniques, and automation tooling, and identify opportunities to apply relevant innovations.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of professional experience in automation or a closely related field, with a demonstrable portfolio of replacing manual work with reliable, production-ready solutions.

• Strong hands-on experience with low-code automation platforms such as n8n or equivalent tools.

• Practical experience building AI agents with Claude, Codex, or comparable AI development tools as part of real operational workflows.

• Strong understanding of APIs, webhooks, system integrations, and the practical challenges of connecting disparate systems.

• A systems-oriented mindset with the ability to map complex, human-driven processes into clear technical architectures.

• Experience shipping automation within an engineering environment rather than relying solely on standalone or vendor-managed tools.

• Strong testing discipline, including the use of evaluations, manual QA, real-world data, and measurable quality thresholds before deploying automations into production.

• Ability to work directly with non-technical domain experts, understand their workflows, and translate business knowledge into effective technical solutions.

• Strong ownership and product thinking, with the ability to manage projects from initial discovery through production and continuous improvement.

• Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change according to operational impact.

• Bonus experience in high-growth startups or operations-intensive sectors such as fintech, energy, logistics, or e-commerce.

• Background in data engineering or business intelligence is advantageous.

• Active interest in the AI tooling landscape and an ability to rapidly evaluate and apply useful new technologies.
